The Civility Code

Many people are returning to classrooms or new schedules this time of year and the pastoral team thought this would be an excellent opportunity for all of us to get back to some basics of human relations and hospitality.

Many people are returning to classrooms or new schedules this time of year and the pastoral team thought this would be an excellent opportunity for all of us to get back to some basics of human relations and hospitality. It is amazing how many challenges and conflicts can be prevented just by practicing “the basics”.

So as we launch preschool, as people return to other classrooms, and as the church gets into the fall mode (and probably good for our nation too!), let us be reminded of what we call the Civility Code but really is all about the Golden Rule...do to others whatever you want them to do to you.

    Here are the real basics...

    1. We will greet and acknowledge each other.
    2. We will say please and thank you.
    3. We will treat each other equally and with respect.
    4. We will be direct, sensitive and honest while speaking the truth in love.
    5. We will address incivility.

We hope to keep these points in front of all of us so as we work to have open and fresh minds for what is new this fall. I hope as a community, we may all focus on these at church, at work, at school and at home.

I'll be trying hard and hope to be held accountable when I miss the mark!!!

    Blessings, Patti
