Family Promise, formerly known as Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) needs household goods to furnish one two-bedroom apartment for an Indianapolis family experiencing homelessness. Since we are not hosting families at CUMC in 2021 as we have in the previous 25 years, this apartment project is the way we can help one family in need. CLICK HERE for a full list of items needed.

Monday-Friday- 2 shifts available

Volunteers Needed!

We are trying something new and exciting in the church office and are hoping you are willing to help! We have such a welcoming congregation that we are hoping to recruit a cadre of volunteers to help staff the receptionist desk daily.

Duties include:

Being a friendly, welcoming face for CUMC

Answering the phone and directing calls as needed

Opening the door

Greeting guests and showing hospitality

Light computer work as needed based on your ability, computer skills aren’t required

All receptionist volunteers will be trained on the position via a training session held by the office staff & SPRC.  We are hoping congregation members would be willing to take a scheduled shift each week (i.e. Monday mornings or Friday afternoons) to help with consistency, just like the food pantry.

The shifts are Monday - Friday from 8:30 - 12:30 am and 12:00 - 4:00 pm.

If you are interested, please complete this form.

Poverty 101

How do I help someone in poverty?

Course creator Tim Streett has worked and lived in economically poor neighborhoods for over 25years. Having trained hundreds of volunteers in bridging across economic gaps, he will be coming to CUMC!
Course will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm beginning Aug 18th and runs for 10 weeks.
